Many of the large web players offer or will soon offer analytics products for free. If you use them they may eventually charge you for the service, or they may keep them free but look for other ways to charge you, and use your own statistics against your best interests, by doing one or more of the following
using your site to help categorize keywords that competitors should bid on (and do SEO for)
compare your direct traffic to search traffic and flag your site for review to potentially reduce your search traffic if it is outside the normal range for your given industry

Funny story. Google banned this guy for buying links so instead of owning up and asking for absolution he decides he doesn’t need Google. So he starts buying sponsored ads - paying for links! I’m anxious to see how he does.
But it does bring up an interesting question that the pilgrims have offered an answer for:

Use free email accounts from Yahoo, Gmail, etc. to open up the accounts.

If Google, who for all intents and purposes owns and defines search, does not want a single web property ranking for the same keyword phrase more than once in order to maintain a diversity of search results for searchers, what do we make of blogs on a particular topic that have the potential to rank several pages for the same key phrase? Should bloggers be concerned that they are being discriminated against?

Admittedly, when news first broke of Microsoft’s offer to buy Yahoo!, it was interesting news. I wrote a blog post about it. I ate it up. I giggled. I snorted. I jumped for joy. I spat on the ground and clinched my fist. I raged. I ranted. I smiled. I chanted. And now I’m feeling like Dr Seuss. But I gather you get the point.
