The SEMMY Finalists Have Been AnnouncedWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Thursday, 24 of January , 2008 at 3:52 pm

I kept an eye on the SEMMYs to see if I might have magically been teleported from unknown status to finalist, but to no avail. I wasn’t there.

Nevertheless, there is some great material that made the finalists of the newborn SEMMY awards. In the SEO category, you have the following content titles:

Is Your Affiliate Marketing Page SEOd?Writing by Nick Stamoulis on Friday, 19 of October , 2007 at 1:20 pm

Just because you have an affiliate marketing page on your website to recruit affiliates so that they can do your sales work for you doesn’t mean you should toss SEO out the window. How are you going to get those affiliates if they don’t find your affiliate page?

The best way to optimize an affiliate marketing page for your niche is to optimize it for the words “affiliate marketing” in addition to your most profitable keyword. So if your most profitable keyword is “birds that sing” and you have an affiliate program you want to promote then SEO your affiliate program page around “birds that sing” and “affiliate program.” You will likely get traffic to that page for people looking for an affiliate program related to that keyword.

Well leave it to Google to spank SEO’s by making us work on the Friday night before Christmas.

Google Update

There’s an update starting. At this time it appears to be fairly minor with only a few tweaks however there are some odd “goings on” across various datacenters with some only showing domain names as the title in the results so monitoring is definitely on the agenda for the weekend.

Bigger Traffic Volume with BlogsWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Saturday, 22 of December , 2007 at 12:24 pm

Blogs are a great way to build up traffic for your website. They are relatively easy to set up and manage. There are a few options for free hosting that are not bad, but from a branding perspective, you would do better to run your blog off your own domain.

Wordpress is one of the best blog packages out at the moment. I have used a lot of different scripts, some of which I actually prefer to Wordpress. When it comes to the crunch, however, I tend to go to Wordpress for the simplicity. It’s free, it is highly customizable and it is popular. This makes for a wealth of widgets, plug-ins and free themes that can all be used to enhance your blog and hopefully drive a bit of traffic to your site.

Flash-based sites have problems with SEO or “Skip This Intro”

Update: I laughed out loud after reading this post theGoogleCache.com. View the Should I Make a Flash Site Flowchart?

Using Flash is a slippery slope, even Adobe’s Flash page is light on the Flash. I hesitate to bring up this topic as it can be very heated. Why, I myself used to be an avid Flash developer about 8 years ago. But back then not many people understood the concept of SEO or Internet Marketing and Google was just a twinkle in the Internet’s watchful eye.

This morning I spent a half hour interviewing Danny Sullivan about the upcoming Search Marketing Expo in Seattle on June 4 and 5. We hashed through quite a bit of material and I learned a great deal about what the goals of the conference will be, who the target audience is and why there are so many changes from his successful SES conference series.

Size of Venue & Limited Crowd

With SMX, the crowd capacity iis 550 attendees, a far cry from the throngs of thousands in attendance at SES shows in San Jose or New York, but not neither the tiny size of exclusive events like SEODays or Elite Retreat. Danny’s hoping that by limiting the crowd size, he can do a few things:

Roll up, roll up, come get your Google juice here.

The no follow tag has now been removed from the comments in this blog. This means when you make a comment, you get a little bit of Google juice right at you.

I have thermo nuclear spam protection if anyone tries to monkey around, and no putting Free credit cards and such like in the Name.

The reference to the pink links is for those who have the Search Status Firefox plugin, it shows no follow links as pink. If you don’t have it installed go get it, it does tons of other cool stuff as well.

Limit Yourself On The Social Media Tools That You Use And You’ll Be Far More ProductiveWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Friday, 17 of August , 2007 at 9:40 pm

I’m reading one of my favorite blogs and find that someone I respect uses Twitter. So I’m thinking, What’s the point?

It’s not that I have anything personal against Twitter or anyone who uses it, but I hear so much buzz about it and I don’t see a huge value. It may be there, but I’m just not seeing it. I mean, if you’re going to blog then blog. If you’re just going write a couple of sentences about the sandwich you ate for lunch then I wonder what that is all about. But some folks swear by it.
